Carl Brauhart is one of Perth's leading geoscience consultants, so if you are looking for help on any matter related to field geology, or to interpret geochemical data, you have come to the right place.
Camp Oven Exploration encapsulates the fact that the best ideas often arise over the campfire with a good meal and a bottle of red. Its the best place to join Carl and discuss your geological consulting needs. Carl has over thirty years industry experience and has particular expertise, at all scales, in orogenic gold, lithium, magmatic nickel, porphyry copper, VHMS and sediment-hosted Pb-Zn mineral systems. Particular experiences are listed in Carl's resumé, and include many orogenic gold deposits and districts, particularly in the Yilgarn, a number of magmatic nickel sulphide districts in the Yilgarn, lithium-pegmatite fields in the Pilbara and Yilgarn Cratons, Anaconda-style mapping and core logging at the Jebel Ohier porphyry copper deposit in Sudan, various VHMS districts including regional alteration mapping of the Panorama VHMS camp in the Pilbara and long-term geochemical and fieldwork consulting on the DeGrussa Project for Sandfire Resources, and basin-hosted Pb-Zn systems in the Kimberley.
Importantly, fundamental skills honed over 30 years can be adapted to ANY mineral deposit type. Carl specialises in two fundamental geological disciplines that can be applied anywhere.
Best results are achieved when these two disciplines are integrated and this integration is an iterative process. Very often, the process starts with exploratory data analysis (EDA) of existing geochemical data. The next step is to take geochemical classifications and field check them. The quality of mapping and core logging invariably improves with the insights provided by geochemistry. Subtle observable features that discriminate different lithologies, alteration facies and mineralisation domains can then be recognised by their observable physical charcteristics in the light of a new geochemical classification. New knowledge leads to further, better targeted, geochemical sampling and the iterative loop repeats. The result is higher quality drill targets and a better chance of exploration success.
You can browse through the Photo Gallery to see some examples of the fieldwork undertaken by Carl over the last 30 years.
Carl has strong and enduring links to the Centre for Exploration Targeting at the University of Western Australia since completing his PhD there in 1998. Although he is not a prolific publisher (Publications), each paper he writes is impactful, presenting genuinely new data and concepts to the geoscience community. Since 2011, Carl has led the OSNACA Project, leading to his most important paper that provides the first mathematical transform to quantify mineralisation signature.
A man should never be ashamed to own that he has been in the wrong, which is but saying that he is wiser today than he was yesterday
